Biography
I was born in Manchester, England, with naturally curly hair and an easy smile.
From the start, people would give me gifts, which – unsurprisingly – made me smile even more.
It also seems that I was photographed quite a lot as a child.
Did it have an impact in my future career? Who knows?
1967
My fascination with airliners began very early.
I was captivated by their beauty, their colours, their design…
I travelled often, mostly by plane, and my visual curiosity pushed me to photograph these pretty machines.
One day, my father gave me a ‘real’ camera – a Voigtländer – a gesture that, as I later realized, marked the start of my vocation.
1977
At Millfield School, photography became my hobby.
When I completed my studies, people advised me to pursue photography further.
However, I initially enrolled in a preparatory program to become an Aeronautical Engineer.
I quickly discovered that photography interested me far more than mathematics.
1978
I explored various artistic disciplines: sewing, drawing, painting, screen printing – and of course, photography.
This creative journey led me to earn an Art Foundation Diploma at Ealing, London.
1982
I searched for a university where I could study photography in greater depth, ideally in England.
The University of Derby stood out with its strong focus on encouraging students’ creativity.
I completed a Master’s degree in Creative Photography there and wrote my thesis titled:
Surrealism and Contemporary Advertising Photography.
1984
I moved to Paris, determined to be a professional photographer.
I began as a fine art or artist photographer, then as a photographer of fine restoration work, to eventually define myself simply as a photographer.
And finally settled in Paris, France.
